Hey Yall-

Question about in-line filters and which I should buy. I read posts in this forum about the devastator filter but I’m not sure Tom is building them anymore. Saw stuff about him online and not producing products or something, I don’t know but I checked his site and all are out of stock. I was looking at the silver bullet which is cheap or the new Boss from TMF which is not cheap. I never had a truck mount before and I’ll be with Rob in VA next week getting mine installed. He has the boss filter in stock and I can grab it while there but it’s $400 more than the silver bullet. Not sure if it’s worth it. Curious if anyone has experience with either and can share opinions or has good experience with a different brand.

Thanks for the advice

I use Tom’s Devastator filters but if I couldn’t get one I’d buy one from Joe. He’s persona non grata here so I can’t give you his website but you can reach him at W A N D E R S P R O D U C T S

I love my sapphire box filter. It's the easiest to clean for my opinion, but I'm the guy who doesn't like using paint filters so if that's your desire, you might not want that

If I buy the silver bullet there is this weird thing from Joe saying you commit to buying his filter bags. They aren’t expensive but thought that was odd. That SS box looks interesting. I have their upholstery tool for portables and love it, wonder if I can use that with the truckmount too without spending $700 in the truckmount version.

I use a custom stainless version of the old prochem filter box i had fabed up. The prochem version had a single 3" hose coming from the wastetank to the back of the filter box. My wastetank is setup with 2-2" in so when i had these built i set um up for 2-2" in & out they (i had 3 built) designed to use a standard prochem filter basket to save money ( it would have doubled the price if i had to make the baskets) when all was said and done i think i spent about 50.00 less to build these htan buying off the shelf prochem units . I had originally bought a prochem unit and modified it but because it was made of aluminum it had seriously been eaten up from the chemicals. The units i have now are 20 or so years old and still look and function like new. Only downside is that it does consume floor space

Just beware

Joe might call you at 6am if he’s got something on his mind. So give a fake phone number on your order

Thank you, I’ve bought from him before and never had issues. Appreciate the input
You're welcome. Heres a thought. Before i bought the original prochem filter i used these inexpensive inline filters and had really good luck with them way way way back then they had a hindged lid with a spring loaded latch instead of what appear to be a screw on end the spring latch and plastic hinges were the units weak points. They don't hold alot but they're inexpensive, light, don't take up much space and do a great job of filtering Amazon has um for 170.00

Can you post anything using less than all the words in the English language?
i feel its my calling to use as many words possible to get my point across. Ive been this way all my life. It all started back in elementary school when i was tasked with writing an assey and i had to use a minimum of four hundred words . It taught me that yes you can stretch a maximum four word answer into a complete novel so i guess what im trying to say in just a few words is ....... no 😁

Those work great for filtering my water when I drain the recovery tank.

If you try a ( superior) cylindrical filter, the (confusing) box will go to the land fill
Go ahead and post some BS scientific chart about how the cylinder creates some “tornado bs” airflow and increases suction 🙄

And I’ll say “when the paint filter gets full, your suction literally dies worse that foam in your hose and after you replace the filter you have to go back to the last 20min of what you already cleaned with dry passes”.

Paint filters kill suction. Waste baskets hold suction when full and you leave your job sooner. Time is money.

Ive tested more of theses filters than you think I've tested. The only frustrating difference between my testing and yours is, I paid for them. Which makes my tests more accurate. And I've cleaned wayyy more carpet than you have too old man.

Go back to your IICRC board and keep writing your curriculum behind the desk and passing papers to the white collared political pricks.

I believe Reliabuilt builds Robs filters. Steamaction has the F3 and F5 that look awesome. I've seen some issues with Joe's Silver Bullet, but I'm sure it would work fine if you take care of it. I have 2 of the Hydramaster pool style filters and I think they kinda suck. My choice would be Rob's or Steamactions filter. They are a little more money, but they would last you a lifetime.

Im really happy with my filer boxes. But i didn't mind those little clear plastic ones. I forgot th mention my machine does have a secondary filter. The factory filter bag i replace it every 100 hour service . It catches what passes thru the filter box. Mostly sand . Between the 2 i don't have any problems with my comet wastepump valves clogging. The waste tank and pump valves are also cleaned as part of a 100 hour service
